Taiyoo’s Adelaide Cup Odds Lenghten

The 2015 Adelaide Cup odds of Taiyoo have lengthened in the past 24 hours, but the talented stayer remains on top of betting markets for the Group 2 event that will be held at Morphettville this afternoon.

Taiyoo opened at a quote of $3.60 when the 2015 Adelaide Cup final field was released last week, but the consistent galloper has been on the drift ever since ahead of his maiden race start over 3200 metres.

The Haradasun gelding started his summer campaign with a seventh place finish in Seymour last year, but he progressed through the grades in impressive fashion and he has won seven of his past eight race starts.

Taiyoo made his debut at black type level when he carried 60 kilograms to victory in the Listed Moonee Valley Night Cup (2500m) in Melbourne on February 20 and he went on to stamp himself as Adelaide Cup favourite with a tough staying victory in the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) at Morphettville on February 28.

While Taiyoo remains on top of Adelaide Cup betting markets, the market mover has been Tony McEvoy-trained Lucky Lucky Lucky, who has been backed from $5 into $4.80.

Lucky Lucky Lucky made his debut for the Tony McEvoy stable when he took out the Rain Lover Plate (1950m) at Morphettville Parks on January 31 and he finished second behind Éclair Samba in the Listed Birthday Cup (2032) before he was narrowly denied by Taiyoo in the Lord Reims Stakes.

Imported stayer Renew has failed to fire in two race starts this preparation, but remains on the third line of Adelaide Cup betting markets at a quote of $5.

Renew did not beat home a single runner in the Doriemus Handicap (2000m) at Flemington on January 31 and finished sixth in the Moonee Valley Night Cup, but the Dansili gelding won the Listed Sandown Cup (3200m) over the testing staying trip of the Adelaide Cup during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival and trainer Archie Alexander is confident that the five-year-old will peak this afternoon.

The only other horse that is available at single figure Adelaide Cup odds is progressive gelding Crime Fighter, who will be return to Group race for the first time since he failed to fire in both the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) and Group 1 South Australian Derby (2500m).

Crime Fighter finished within a length of Taiyoo in the Moonee Valley Night Cup and he is currently priced at $7.50 to turn-the-tables on his rival in the Adelaide Cup this weekend.

There has been a sprinkling of support for Refectory ($21 into $19) and Tanby ($21 into $19) in the Adelaide Cup betting market with Ladbrokes, while Distillation ($51 out to $67) and Pelicano ($11 out to $13) have all been on the drift.
