Officials at the  Australian Turf Club are hoping for clearing skies over the weekend to be able to proceed  with Friday night’s Canterbury meeting and Warwick Farm on Saturday.

The state wide wet weather has claimed several meetings with today’s Hawkesbury card called off after race two and Friday’s Tamworth meeting was postponed at 1.30pm after a track inspection found the track to be unsafe following continuing rain with more expected.

Today’s Hawkesbury program was abandoned after race two when the ambulance became bogged on its way to the barriers. Jockeys meet with Stewards when it was clear that the ambulance would be unable to follow the field after it became bogged a second time and they had no choice but to cancel the remaining races.

After track inspections at Canterbury and Warwick Farm this afternoon, ATC’s executive general manager of racecourse management Lindsay Murphy issued a slow 6 rating for both tracks.

“The weather is obviously very threatening and the forecast says we are going to cop a lot of rain in the next 24 hours,” Murphy said.

“We will just have to wait and see what situation we are in tomorrow.”

With more rain forecasted for the Sydney area over the weekend, the prospect of a downgrade for Canterbury and Warwick Farm to heavy is highly likely.

With Friday’s Tamworth meeting already postponed, Racing NSW stewards will inspect Grafton with CRJC officials on Friday afternoon to ascertain their Saturday meeting will go ahead. Grafton is rated a heavy 10 at the moment.
