Group 1 placed Sweynesse is set to resume in the Group 2 $175,000 Tramway Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Sweynesse is one of five John O’Shea trained gallopers entered for the Tramway Stakes and will be having his first run back since finishing nineteenth of twenty in the Group 1 $3m The Star 150th Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 6 behind the Chris Waller trained Kermadec.
O’Shea has also nominated It’s Somewhat, Hauraki, Malice and Vashka for the Tramway Stakes which is run under set weights with penalities.
Sweynesse was rated among the top three year olds during the Spring of 2014 with wins in the Group 3 $125,000 Coca-Cola Spring Stakes (1600m) at Newcastle and in the Group 3 $200,000 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Rosehill before running third to Hampton Court in the Group 1 $400,000 Moet & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick.
O’Shea then took the Lonhro colt to Melbourne where he was beaten less than two lengths when eighth to super Irish horses Adelaide in the Group 1 $3m Sportingbet Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley.
“The three-year-old form from last season looks pretty fair,’’ O’Shea told The Daily Telegraph.
“Sweynesse just needs to have a preparation where he has continuity to it — and he lacked that last autumn.’’
Sweynesse had mixed form during the 2015 Sydney Autumn Carnival which kicked off with two seconds behind Hallowed Crown in the Group 2 $200,000 Blackwoods CRC Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill and in the Group 1 $600,000 Girvan Waugh Randwick Guineas (1600m) at Randwick.
A fourth in the Group 1 $500,000 TAB.com.au Rosehill Guineas (2000m) at Rosehill behind Kiwi three year old Volkstok’N’Barrell was next prior to running in the Doncaster Mile.
It’s Somewhat and Vashka have both had one run back from a spell while Malice and Hauraki are both resuming from a spell.
2014 Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist heads the weights at 58kg with the Kris Lees trained stablemate Lucia Valentina number two in the order of entry with 57kg.
The John Thompson trained First Seal has recovered from a stone bruise that kept her out of the Warwick Stakes and is ready to kick of her Spring Carnival campaign in the Tramway Stakes.
