Sweet Idea continued her winning comeback from a bleeding ban with an impressive victory in the Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast this afternoon.

Sweet Idea was banned from racing for three months after bleeding during the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) in the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, but has returned to racing with back-to-back wins in the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes (1200m) and the Magic Millions Guineas.
Jockey James McDonald was forced to go forward from an outside barrier and took Sweet Idea to the lead with 300 metres left to run; with the filly working home strongly to hold-off a fast finishing Estonian Princess in her first attempt in a race over 1400 metres.
“She is a tough filly and Gai is a freak, she just gets them ready on the day,” McDonald said after the race.
“I got a really soft sectional for a furlong and a half coming around the bend and I let her slide.
“She did it very easy and I had them off the bridle and she was just too good.
“We ran second in the $2 million race last year and we have gone one better.”
Waterhouse was celebrating her third straight victory, after taking out the Magic Millions Handicap with Driefontein and the Magic Millions Sprint with Whittington, and said that Sweet Idea simply had too much class for her opposition in the Magic Millions Guineas.
“It has been interesting that the last three horses have been won by the best three horses in the race,” Waterhouse said.
“This is a very, very good filly and she will keep improving.
“She has got amazing speed and she can sustain it; we saw it at Wyong, we saw it in the Golden Slipper and now we have seen it again.
“Not only was she a brilliant two-year-old, but she has come back a brilliant three-year-old.
“She is just a class act.”
Jason McLachlan-trained Enquare was well-backed in the lead-up to the Magic Millions Guineas, after recording four straight victories, but could only finished third and continued the poor run of favourites in the $1 million race.
