Sweet Idea has proven too good for her rivals in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes at Royal Randwick today.

The Snitzel filly has made it three wins a row, after claiming victory in the $100,000 Wyong Magic Millions 3Yo Stakes and $1 million Magic Millions Guineas in her last two starts.

A barrier trial at Royal Randwick on January 31 topped the filly off for today’s Light Fingers Stakes task.

Sweet Idea has now won five of her 10 race starts and has earned more than $1.6 million in prize money during her impressive career.

This is the second Group 2 win for Sweet Idea, who won the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes as a two-year-old.

She then went on to post a brave third placing behind Overreach and Sidestep in the $3.5 million Golden Slipper in her next run.

Sweet Idea is trained at Royal Randwick by Gai Waterhouse and demonstrated her knowledge of the track with her Light Fingers Stakes win.

Stable foreman and representative, Mark Newnham, was at the track to see Sweet Idea claim her first win of the autumn carnival.

Newnham was adamant that Sweet Idea’s win could not be put down to her race fitness, which she has established in her two starts this year.

“I don’t think it’s only fitness, I think it’s a bit of class,” Newnham said.

“She never makes a mistake. She puts herself in a winning position.

“Hopefully we’ll win a Group 1 with her now.”

Sweet Idea was partnered by stable jockey Tommy Berry in the 2014 Light Fingers Stakes.

Berry rode Sweet Idea in her first start, however, has only had one other ride on her since.

“She’s always shown a lot of ability,” Berry said.

“She’s got to be one of the most underrated mares in Australia.

“Hopefully I can stick with her now and go on to bigger and better things.”

Gypsy Diamond placed second in today’s Light Fingers Stakes, while Champagne Cath held on for third.
