Melbourne’s leading jockey Glen Boss will be back to ride in the last two weeks of the season to wrap up his first Metropolitan jockey premiership after copping a twenty-five meeting suspension.

Boss, who leads the Melbourne jockey premiership with sixty-five wins is twenty wins ahead of the reigning title holder Luke Nolen, has also pencilled in knee surgery for this week which was to keep him out for a similar period.
The top jockey pleaded guilty today for causing interference on Gold Heist at the 300m in the 1200m Maiden Plate at Mornington last Monday which resulted in jockey Kane Bradley being thrown from his mount Rock It Ruby.
The careless riding suspension will commence at midnight tonight and Boss will be able to resume riding after midnight on July 12.
Boss told Racing Victoria stewards at the inquiry headed by Brett Wright that he would offer no excuses for the interference and was very remorseful that Bradley had sustained facial injuries.
“I’m not going to make excuses. It’s just a very bad incident,” Boss told the inquiry..
“I’m just happy that Kane has come out of it better than he could have.”
“It’s not a pleasant thing.”
“I pride myself as a good, clean rider. It’s not a good incident, I feel very bad about it.”
Bradley gave evidence after spending a couple of days in hospital and will have to return to undergo facial and dental surgery.
“It’s just part of riding. It’s just unfortunate,” Bradley said.
Boss had already booked in to have minor knee surgery on Wednesday to repair cartilage damage to his left knee and had planned to return to the saddle for the final two weeks of the season.
“It’s just a bit of cartilage damage in my left knee. I’ll be under for about half an hour, that’s all,” Boss said.
Boss has had a stellar season to date highlighted by his three Group 1 wins on Kiwi super star Ocean Park in the Spring as well as having the jockey premiership firmly in his sights.
He combined with Ocean Park to take out the $400,000 Hyland Race Colours Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on September 22, the $400,000 Cathay Pacific Caulfield Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on October 13 and the $3m Sportingbet Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 27.
A winning treble at Bendigo on Sunday took Boss’ total Victoria wins for the season to 104, the best season he has had since switching from his Sydney base several years ago.
