Singapore’s leading juvenile Super One will kick off his Spring Carnival campaign in the $100,000 Procon Developments Apache Cat Classic (1000m) at Cranbourne on Sunday.

The Michael Freedman trained Super One has drawn barrier seven in the field that has already been reduced to eleven with the early scratching the Stephen Brown trained sprinter Canali.

Top Melbourne jockey Craig Newitt will ride the unbeaten colt in the Apache Cat Classic but Hugh Bowman will take over in his main Spring Carnival mission, the Group 1 $500,000 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 31.

Newitt had been aboard Super One for three of his four wins in Singapore and was reacquainted with the I Am Invincible colt at the Werribee International Horse Centre on Wednesday morning for solid workout.

“Just on the horse in Singapore to here, I probably expected him to blow a bit harder because every time we galloped him in Singapore, and even after his races, he’d blow really hard,” Newitt told racing.com.

“But this morning he came off the track and he wouldn’t blow a candle out.

“He’s a cracking horse – he’s a big, physical, sprinting three-year-old colt.”

Super One proved to be the leading two year old in Singapore last season when he scored a five lengths win with Corey Brown in the saddle in the Group 3 SGP$200,000 Juvenile Championship (1200m) at Kranji on July 26 to keep his unbeaten record intact.

The new season three year old is on the minimum 54kg and will take on the older sprinters in the Apache Cat Classic and a tough hitout will all go well leading into the Coolmore Stud Classic.

The Robbie Griffiths trained It Is Written heads the weights with 59kg and has drawn next to Super One at barrier six with Matthew Allen to ride.

Second topweight Hard stride has Dwayne Dunn in the saddle and will jump from barrier two while the Pat Carey trained General Jackson has drawn the rails with Patrick Moloney in the saddle.

If you are having a bet at Cranbourne on Sunday, take advantage of Ladbrokes Cranbourne Special of Best Tote or SP + 20% on both the Cranbourne Cup and the Apache Cat Classic up to a maximum bet of $50.
