Victorian trainer Mark Kavanagh won’t shut any spring doors on Group 1 winner Super Cool, suggesting he will be entered for all the majors including the $6.2 million Melbourne Cup (3200m).

Kavanagh has previously stated he thinks 2000m may be the rising four-year-old’s best distance but he is happy to let his charge prove him wrong.

“He’ll be nominated for all of the best races,” Kavanagh told Racing Victoria.

Kavanagh indicated he won’t make any concrete plans until at least August and said Super Cool will begin to increase his work load in the coming weeks.

“He’s been at the pre-trainers for a month,” he said.

“He’s ready to have his work stepped up and we’re quite happy with his progress at this very early stage.”

By Fastnet Rock from Queen Mother, Super Cool hinted he could be big player in the future last spring when beating It’s A Dundeel in the Mitchelton Wines Vase and finishing second to Fiveandahalfstar in the Victoria Derby.

In the autumn he really stood up, turning the tables on Fiveandahalfstar twice to take out the Group 2 Autumn Classic and the Group 1 Australian Cup.

Autumn suggestions were that the gelding would be aimed at the Cox Plate and if so he could face a showdown with superstar stablemate Atlantic Jewel.

Kavnagh has been hesitant to commit to any spring plans with the injury-troubled mare but the Cox Plate looks a suitable goal if she can get back to full fitness.

Unbeaten from seven starts, Atlantic Jewel hasn’t raced since April 2012 but reports out of the Kavanagh camp have been positive that she can make a return this spring.
