Sunshine Coast Guineas Looming for Mr Individual

Co-trainer Troy Corstens has revealed three-year-old Mr Individual will remain north of the border this week to run in the Group 3 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) on Saturday.

Mr Individual has produced a number of commendable performances through his short career so far, but has shown a tendency for reasonably inconsistent results; owing largely to a lack of focus in transit.

Having trialled well on the Gold Coast on Thursday, Corstens told AAP is if confident the colt is in the right form to overcome his disappointing run for tenth in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) a fortnight ago, when he lines up for the 2016 Sunshine Coast Guineas.

“He trialled very nicely,” Corstens said.

“He got a severe prat early in the Queensland Guineas and he didn’t race generously after that. He was a bit of a handful for Ollie (jockey Damien Oliver) and he wanted to hang badly around the corner.

“So we were keen to get him around a tight track that way of going, just to give him that bit more education.

“We’ve done that and it will top him off for next Saturday’s race.”

Corstens is confident the horse will only continue to improve as he masters his craft through coming seasons and campaigns.

“He’s a really nice horse but he’s a real work in progress,” he said.

“He’s a similar horse to Awesome Rock. We definitely know he’s got the ability, but he’s just been a little bit wayward in his education.

“We’re working towards that but he’s not the kind of horse you can force change on.

“You’ve got to work with him but I think there’s definitely a stack of ability there and there always has been.

“They don’t lose that, it’s just harnessing it and getting the best back out of him.”

Debuting to racing for success in a Bendigo minor over 1100m in June last year, Mr Individual failed to fire when seventh in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes (1200m), but responded positively with a strong performance to win the Polytrack BM64 (1200m) on September 16th.

Again missing the mark when sixth in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m), the Starspangledbanner colt retuned to the paddock after winning the Movenpick Racedayicecream BM78 (1600m) on October 14th.

Clearly requiring a run when eleventh in the Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) on May 7th, Mr Individual placed fourth in the Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1400m) on May 28th, in what was his only other start prior to the Queensland Guineas.

The 2016 Sunshine Coast Guineas field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday (June 29th).
