Summer Cup The Racing Swansong for I’m Imposing

I’m Imposing has been a strong and consistent performer since arriving in Australia from his native Great Britain five years ago, and trainer Chris Waller is hopeful the popular ten-year-old can retire from racing a winner of Saturday’s Group 3 Summer Cup (2000m) at Royal Randwick.

Beginning his racing career under the guidance of Aidan O’Brien in 2008, I’m Imposing has posted an impressive seven wins and fifteen minors through forty-six career starts; purchased by Lloyd Williams and passing through the care of Robert Hickmott before again being sold and transferred to Waller’s care prior to his 2013 preparation.

I’m Imposing has won the two most recent edition of the Summer Cup and while conceding he has yet to find the form that delivered those results this time, Waller told AAP he is pleased with the condition of the Danehill Dancer gelding ahead of his racing swansong and is hopeful he can bow out of racing in the best way possible.

“This will be his last race,” Waller said.

“I’m hoping he can improve and go out on a good note.

“He doesn’t have a new home yet but we will find him a good one. We always do.”

I’m Imposing returned to racing in the 2014 Spring for a close second in the Filante Handicap (1500m) on October 25th, and while unable to make an impact when fourteenth in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m), responded in the best way possible when taking out the Listed Festival Stakes (1500m) and placing a close second in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) leading into his Summer Cup triumph.

Returning this year for tenth in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) on March 21st, the gelding out of On Fair Stage travelled north for the Brisbane Winter Carnival and posted third place finishes in each of the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m), Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) and Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1600m) most notably.

Again requiring a few runs to find form this time, I’m Imposing placed third in the Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m) on October 3rd; returning to the paddock for a brief freshen-up before resuming for eighth in the Festival Stakes and twelfth in the Villiers Stakes most recently.

The 2015 Summer Cup field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
