Group 1 winning mare Suavito has suffered a training setback and will missed the 2015 Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

Trainer Nigel Blackiston had set his sights on the Group 1 $3m Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 24 after Suavtio scored her initial Group 1 victory in the Autumn earlier in the year.
Suavito broke through for her maiden Group 1 win when she beat Smokin’ Joey and Dissident in the weight for age $500,000 Cathay Pacific Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 22 during the Melbourne Autumn Carnival.
Blackiston had high hopes of taking on the weight for age championship at Moonee Valley but will now rest the Thorn Park mare before preparing her for another Autumn Carnival campaign in 2016.
“Disappointed today to advise that Suavito has had a setback & will miss the Spring. Will get her back in Autumn,” Blackiston said on twitter.
“Sad news for her connections. As per papers this morning, we were excited about Spring. But a few weeks of recovery and all will be well.”
Suavito kicked off a four win winning streak during the 2014 Spring Carnival with a victory at Moonee Valley in the Group 3 $150,000 Telstra Phonewords Stakes (1200m) on October 25 before beating Girl In Flight and subsequent Group 1 winner Amanpour in the Group 2 $300,000 Momentum Energy Stakes (2000m) at Flemington during the 2014 Melbourne Cup Carnival.
The talented mare then resumed in the Autumn to record a hat trick of wins with her Futurity Stakes win and then went on to make it four on the trot when she downed Sertorious and Kourkam in the Group 2 $200,000 Incognitus Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on March 14.
Blackiston gave Sauvito one more run in the Autumn but the mare failed to handle the wet track when seventh to Kermadec in the Group 1 $3m The Star 150th Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 6, the first day of ‘The Championships’.
“She didn’t handle the heavy and her jockey Corey Brown said she just kept on trying,” Blackiston said.
Suavito is the winner of seven of her eighteen race starts and has earned $952,550 in prizemoney for her connections.
