Streama Takes Out 2014 Hollindale Stakes

Talented mare Streama returned to winning form with a classy victory in the 2014 Wimmers Soft Drinks A.D Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast this afternoon.

Streama was positioned just behind the leaders in the early stages of the Hollindale Stakes and she received a cruisy run on the fence before being taken wide by jockey Blake Shinn coming around the final turn.

Mr O’Ceirin looked as though he may have stolen victory when he kicked two lengths clear at the 250 metre mark, but Streama was too strong in the final stages of the race to score her eighth victory at Group level from Mr O’Ceirin and veteran stayer Precedence who stormed home late.

Streama was one of the star performers during the 2013 Sydney Spring Racing Carnival, winning the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) and finishing second in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m), but made a slow start to her 22014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival preparation.

The Stratum mare returned to the races with a fifth place finish in the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 15 and had no luck when sixth behind stablemate Appearance in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Royal Randwick on March 15.

Streama returned to a semblance of her best form with a sixth place finish in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 29, but failed to fire in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Royal Randwick on April 12 before finishing fourth in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes at the same venue a week later.

The triple Group 1 winner has been included in the nominations for the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) that were released earlier in the week and will have a chance to score another victory at the highest level of racing before she is retired at the end of the racing season.

Chris Waller-trained Junoob was well-backed in the lead-up to the Hollindale Stakes and received a lovely run in transit, but was unable to replicate the acceleration of Streama when asked for an extra effort in the final stages of the race.

Arguably the run of the race was Team Cummings-trained Precedence; with the eight-year-old storming home from the tail of the field with a performance that indicates he is primed for the Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2200m) at Doomben on May 24 and the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 7.
