Promising filly Streama has been ruled out of the Doncaster Mile after failing to convince trainer Guy Walter she is up to competing in the prestigious $1.5 million event.

Walter made the call following Saturday’s Group 1 Coolmore Classic after the highly rated three-year-old was unable to challenge for victory and had to settle for a fifth-place finish three lengths behind winner Ofcourseican.

Walter, a leading Sydney trainer, said the Coolmore result showed she was not hardened enough to face older horses in the Doncaster.

“The weights of the Doncaster are way too compressed…it’s hopeless for a young horse and she won’t be going there,” he said.

With the Doncaster now off the talented Stratum filly’s radar, she is instead likely to race in the Vinery Stud Stakes over 2000 metres on Golden Slipper Day on April 7.

She will be in for a testing time if she does line up in the Vinery, with the race 400 metres longer than any distance she has covered before.

Adding to the difficulty of the task will be her opposition, with star Randwick and Australian Guineas winning filly Mosheen also targeting the race.

Despite a disappointing result in the Coolmore Classic, Walter was happy with how relaxed Streama was but suggested they got the tactics wrong for the Group 1 race.

“She ended up having to chase a fast speed out wide with no cover. We were hoping she would be box-seating or something like that but it just didn’t work out that way,” Walter said.

The talented filly has five career wins from 11 starts with the highlight being the Group 1 Coolmore Flight Stakes in October last year.
