Straight Albert Begins Doncaster Mile Bid In Newcastle Newmarket

Straight Albert will begin his run towards the Group 1 Doncaster Mile at Royal Randwick on April 21 when he resumes at the Newcastle this Wednesday.

The four-year-old gelding will line up for the Group 3 Newmarket at the track before running in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes in preparation for his Doncaster test.

Straight Albert will looking to win his first group start when he runs at Newcastle this Wednesday under the guidance of trainer Guy Walter.

The talented Magic Albert gelding won four of his six race starts last preparation, with his most recent being in the Listed Gosford Cup on January 12.

Jockey Kathy O’Hara is confident he will put on a good show in the Newmarket, but believes he will be at his best later in his autumn campaign.

“The Newmarket may be a little short of his best but he is a good horse fresh,” O’Hara said.

“We are trying to get him into the Doncaster with a light weight.

“He probably needs to win to get in.”

Straight Albert has won seven of his 18 race starts and has earned more than $290,000 in prize money.

He’s Remarkable will also be looking to earn himself a spot in the Doncaster Mile field when he saddles up for the Newmarket this week.

The Pentire entire finished second in the Group 1 Railway Stakes last start and will be ridden by jockey Corey Brown in this Wednesday’s first-up start.

“I’m really happy to get back on him,” Brown said.

“I rode him at his first start here in Australia but when I was suspended Kerrin got the ride.”

The New Zealand bred and trained He’s Remarkable has won five of his 15 race starts and has earned more than $500,000 in prize money.
