Owner Gary Grimish confirmed the news on Brisbane’s RadioTAB this morning, stating vets were left with no other option after the injury was found to be untreatable.

“It occurred in the very lower extremity of his hoof and it’s something you can’t treat or put a screw in,” Grimish said.

“After the vet’s advice we had to get him put down.”

The injury happened when the Chris Waller-trained import escaped his trackwork rider in the lead-up to the Hollindale Stakes on Saturday from which he was subsequently scratched.

Stout Hearted was being set for Saturday week’s Group 1 Doomben Cup.

After beginning his career in the UK the Dynaformer gelding first raced for Sydney’s premier trainer in March 2012.

From 20 career starts he scored six victories with the major highlight being last year’s Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes at Rosehill.
