A six-year-old mare without a win since the middle of 2010 doesn’t seem like the best of investments but Storm Kite deserves plenty more credit than what she has on paper.

The Ron Quinton trained runner will race tomorrow at Rosehill Gardens in the competitive looking Steggles Handicap over 1200m.

All up she’s started 20 times in her career for the four wins and six places.

In addition to that though she’s run in the top five on another six occasions.

In fact just twice in her entire career has Storm Kite finished more than three lengths away from the winner.

It’s this type of consistency that gives Quinton hope that tomorrow just might be her day as she runs first up since the end of February.
“She’s had a nice foundation leading into this,” Quinton said.

“She had a barrier trial back in early June and she’s progressed well.”

While Quinton says she’s certainly a horse that likes to get back a bit in the field, he maintains that even if the going isn’t overly hot up front she can still run a rac eover the final few furlongs.
“A couple of times at Canterbury when she’s won she’s come of a slow pace, she can dash,” he said.

“I’m hoping for a great run from her.”

Josh Parr is the jockey charged with getting her the win and plenty are backing him to succeed.

The last prep of Strom Kite saw her run seven times for three seconds and a third and she never finished lower than fifth.
