Thousand Guineas winner Stay With Me will be ridden quietly from a wide barrier in the Group 1 $500,000 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Stay With Me drew the outside of the fifteen horse field of fillies and mares and co-trainer David Hayes will be instructing new jockey Sam Clipperton to settle the Street Cry filly towards the rear of the field.

“We’ll ride her patiently from the outside barrier and take our chances. She’s not quite mentally ready to be riding races on [speed] yet,” Hayes told racing.com.

Stay With Me is the only filly taking on the older mares but with only with 49kg on her back under the weight for age conditions, Hayes is going into the race quietly confident.

“I think there’s only been about five [fillies] have a crack,” Hayes said.

“I think this filly … it just depends on how good the filly is and how good the opposition are, but it doesn’t look like there’s a Winx or a standout mare.

“So it might be the year where a three-year-old comes through. She’s healthy and well.”

Stay With Me has only raced against her own age group from six race starts, but Hayes decided to take on the older mares over the 1600m after the filly won the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 10.

“She has 49 kilos and she has probably improved from the Guineas win, which was spectacular,” Hayes said.

“She is one of the best fillies I have had for a while.

“She will be given clear galloping room in the straight and I am pretty confident, providing that she doesn’t get clattered out too wide, that she will be winning.”

Stay With Me at $4.50 has a slight advantage in the market order over the Chris Waller trained Royal Descent who has firmed into $4.80 following plenty of early support with Ladbrokes.com.au.

The only other runner under the $10 mark is the Ciaron Maher trained Azadellia at $8.50.
