Startsmeup Runs In George Moore Stakes For New Trainer

Queensland sprinter Startsmeup has been transferred to trainer Gillian Heinrich after spending all of his initial 20 starts with Bruce Hill.

Startsmeup has been trained by Hill since he was purchased at the 2009 Magic Millions Yearling Sale for $47,500.

The four-year-old has won four of his 20 race starts and has accrued more than $460,000 under the guidance of his previous Gold Coast trainer.

However, a brief phone call made to Hill made by the horse’s connections put a swift end to their successful partnership.

“I got a phone call one day from one of the owners and he said the horse would be picked up and would be going to another trainer,” Hill said.

“He was my best horse but I’ll find another.

“I trained him from the very first day of his career but I won’t lose any sleep because he’s gone.”

The transfer was made after Startsmeup returned from his spring campaign down in Sydney, where he placed in two of his three Group starts.

Startsmeup finished third behind Pinwheel and Ilovethiscity in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes before running second to Thankgodyou’rehere in the Group 3 Bill Richie Handicap.

The Danzero gelding will have his first start was his new trainer in the Group 3 George Moore Stakes at Doomben this Saturday.

It had always been Hill’s plan to target this weekend’s George Moor Stakes with Startsmeup, along with the Listed Lough Neagh Stakes and the Magic Millions Cup.

It remains to be seen whether new trainer Gillian Heinrich will choose to follow the same path.
