Trainer Peter Snowden is tipping Dublin Lass can continue her winning run throughout the Summer after scoring an impressive win in the Listed $100,000 The HQ Of Insurance Starlight Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill last Saturday.
Dublin Lass was sent out the $2.50 favourite and was always travelling sweetly in third position and gave her followers no worries in the straight when she cruised past the leader Freeze The Charges to record a half a length win.
Snowden, who trains in partnership with is son Paul, was naturally pleased with the result and can see more vists to the winner’s stall for Dublin Lass over the Summer Racing Carnival.
“I didn’t expect her to be that close but she travelled like a winner early and finished off nicely,’’ Peter Snowden said.
“She’s in good form and mares that are in form are hard to beat.
“There are races for her now every two weeks for the next six weeks so there are plenty of options for her and I won’t be surprised if she wins a couple more. Her confidence is up and you have to have a crack at them.’’
Winning rider Kerrin McEvoy was at his patient best in not letting Dublin Lass go too early and held her up as long as he could in the straight before claiming the leader at the one hundred metres.
“I was stuck between a rock and a hard place of getting into the clear and getting there earlier than normal without letting her off the bridle,’’ McEvoy said.
“She was strong to the line and got there and pricked her ears.’’
Snowden has selected the Listed $100,000 Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) at Randwick on December 12 as her next outing followed by the Listed $100,000 Canterbury Classic (1200m) at Randwick on December 26.
The Listed $100,000 Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) at Gosford on January 8 is also pencilled into Dublin Lass’ Summer program.
Dublin Lass scored her seventh race win in the Starlight Stakes following a very sound effort two starts back when second to Pittsburgh Flyer in the Group 3 $200,000 G.H. Mumm Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on Crown Oaks Day.
Dublin Lass had been a consistent performer throughout her three and four year old years and earned herself a start in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Club Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast during the Queensland Winter Carnival after claiming her first black type race by winning the Listed $100,000 Mittys Bright Shadow Handicap (1200m) at Doomben at her previous start.
But the step up to Group 1 company proved too much for the O’Reilly mare and she was a well beaten fifteenth behind the classy Victorian mare Srikandi in the Tattersall’s Club Tiara.
Saturday’s Starlight Stakes victory took Dublin Lass’ prizemoney earnings to $366,500 for her seven wins from seventeen starts.
