Starchine Debuts For Mick Price Stable

Two-year-old Starchine will have his first race start in tomorrow’s Laura Butcher Memorial Plate at Caulfield for trainer Mick Price.

The Stratum colt has been highly supported to win the race after winning both his previous jump outs at the same track.

“He’s won both jump outs here at Caulfield, his second one was good,” Price said.

Price was referring to Starchine’s ability to pull away from the rest of the field in his last run.

Despite the hype surrounding Starchine’s first run, Price feels it will be a tough race for the inexperienced youngster.

“He’s a nice horse (but) he’s still a bit green,” he said.

“I’m not saying he can’t win.

“If he has a nice run in the race (he can win).

“I think he needs something to follow.

“He’s got a good bright future.”

Starchine will face up against seven other two years olds in the race, two of which have previous race experience.

“There’s no doubt there are some nice running two-year-olds in the race but race day always tells,” Price said.

In addition to Starchine, Price will also line up Our Pride And Joy in the Rose Ritchie Plate.

The four-year-old mare has had just three starts for Price and has won two of them.

“She’s a nice mare (but) she came a little bit wintery,” the trainer said.

“I sort of stopped her when she came in the stables and she turned a corner.”

Our Pride And Joy has won four of her 13 race starts and has earned close to $100,000 in prize money.

“It looks a nice race for her,” Price said.

“She wouldn’t want to get held up though.

“Most of these horses she beat at Sandown so she just needs to be bowling along at the start of the straight.”

Price will also saddle up Lenore, Stratigraphy, Insurpassable, Inablitz and Nine Tales in Caulfield’s eight-card program tomorrow.
