Stakes winning sprinter Stirling Grove died this morning just one week after running third to Buffering in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield.
Trainer Richard Jolly reported the sad news on twitter this morning.
“Sadly Stirling Grove passed away this morning. All sadden from this lost :( #rip #stirlinggrove,” Jolly tweeted.
The five-year-old gelding was nominated for both the Group 1 Manikato Stakes and Patinack Farm Classic after producing solid results in high-level sprints throughout his 24-start career.
He won seven races including the Group 3 SA Sire’s Produce Stakes in 2010 and placed on another nine occasions.
Major highlights included third-place finishes to Black Caviar in the Group 1 Goodwood in May and in the 2011 Schillaci Stakes.
