There was a general consensus between trainer, jockey and punters at Canterbury yesterday that Sea Siren is a filly to watch going forward in 2012.

The John O’Shea runner scored an easy win against her Wednesday rivals across 1250m to take her winning record to two from three.

The manner of her victory has also opened up the possibility of a Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes charge at Warwick Farm on February 18.

It’s a big step up to the top grade of Sydney’s fillies with horses like Streama following the same schedule but O’Shea is confident Sea Siren can mix it with the best.

“She will have a week off now and then we will bring her back for the traditional three-year-old fillies races,” O’Shea said.

“We will start in the Light Fingers and then go to the 1400m race (Surround Stakes).

“After that we may look at backing off and then going to Queensland.”

It was a feeling shared by Glyn Schofield who enjoyed a big day at Canterbury yesterday.

Not only did he score a betting plunge aboard Pentasia towards the end of the day but he found plenty to like in Sea Siren even though she made a few mistakes.

“She is still very new, she has a lot of mental improvement to come,” he said.

“She dipped at the start of the race which cost us a little bit of momentum but her class showed at the finish.”

Sea Siren’s other races include a last start win over 1200m at Canterbury on December 16 and a debut third on November 30 over the same track and distance.
