Jimmy Choux

Jimmy Choux is travelling better than he ever according to trainer John Bary

There are some trainers that like to give their horse a plug just about every time it comes out to race while there are others that’ll talk it down no matter how well it’s travelling.

John Bary though is a pretty straight up character and if things aren’t too flash he’ll let you know just as soon as if he rates it a winning chance.

With that in mind it’s hard to ignore him ahead of this weekend then when his charger Jimmy Choux runs in the Group 1 Windsor Park Stud Stakes in New Zealand.

He says the horse is travelling better than he ever has before, in fact he claims the horse is travelling better than any horse he’s ever seen.

“He’s gone up the next level,” Bary said, “If he draws an alley for Saturday I think it’ll take all power of beating him.”

Jimmy Choux wasn’t exactly poor first up either, his second place finish at Hastings against a crack field was impressive but it’ll be nothing compared to what he shows this weekend according to Bary.

“He’s a different horse this Saturday, I’m like a kid with a new toy I can’t wait for the gates to open,” he said.

To be fair the trainer doesn’t really have a lot of choice other than to be confident after Jimmy Choux’s owner Richard Wood went on the record as saying this earlier in the week:

” I don’t think he’ll be beaten again…he’ll win the Cox Plate”

It’s a huge call but one that hasn’t shaken Bary.

“I saw the work this morning and if he’d seen it it’d be twice as bullish again,” he said.

“It’s all a bit of fun, we’re here to promote the sport and we’re confident.

“At the end of the day the horse is going to do the work on the 22nd of October.”

It’s clear that owner and trainer are expecting nothing less than victory this weekend so it’s probably only natural that jockey Jonathon Riddell joins in as well.

“He (Riddell) just said wow, I think you might be right…I think they might not beat him on Saturday,” Bary said.

This will be Jimmy Choux’s final New Zealand start before heading to Auckland and boarding a flight to Australia on the road to the Cox Plate.
