Former Kiwi apprentice Daniel Stackhouse has made the best possible impression to his new boss, Peter Moody, by winning at Sandown aboard his filly Le Societe yesterday.

Stackhouse was New Zealand’s Southern Region’s leading apprentice in the 2009/2010 season, with the jockey partnering a total of 34 winners.

The win was the first in Melbourne for the young apprentice and was the first ever run for two-year-old filly Le Societe.

Stackhouse was thrilled to be given the opportunity to ride Le Societe to her debut win.

“I’d like to thank Peter for giving me the opportunity to ride her today,” he said.

The young jockey was given a true sense of the filly’s ability as she stormed to a four and a half length victory in the race.

“She’s a classy filly, as you can see, she’s been working well and she got through the ground fine,” Stackhouse said.

“I never expected her to extend like she did and she gave me a great feel.”

Moody was more than happy with Stackhouse’s ride and was optimistic about his future in the industry.

“It’s good to see young Daniel kick off,” Moody said.

“He’s only had a couple of moderate animals to punch around, but I think you’ll see as much of him in the winter months as you’ll see of this filly later in her career.”

Moody was also pleased that his $175,000 purchase of Le Societe appears to be paying off.

“She’s a well-bred filly,” Moody said.

“Anabaa out of a Zabeel mare’s been an unbelievable cross – we won a Caulfield Guineas with one of those (Anacheeva) last year.”

The trainer hopes that the filly will recover well enough from yesterday’s run to have one more run this campaign.

“She probably has one more,” Moody said.

“We know she handles the soft, so then we’ll put her away and bring back at the back end of the spring.”
