Kiwi apprentice Daniel Stackhouse had a bitter sweet time at Moonee Valley tonight.
Stackhouse rode a winning double aboard Verification and Save A Penny but was suspended by Racing Victoria Stewards.
Verification came from last to win the Alternate Rail Plate (1533m) while the second leg winner Save A Penny won the Sportingbet Hcp (1000m) from near the front.
The victory on Save A Penny was the seventh for Stackhouse in his past 21 rides.
The win enabled trainer Dale Sutton to quinella the race.
Stackhouse settled Save A Penny in clear second place behind stablemate Over Exposed.
That horse set a quick pace under apprentice Damian Lane.
Coming to the home turn, Save A Penny came out after the leader but no other horse could do the same.
Save A Penny hit the front at the 50m mark and beat Over Exposed with Dashing Miss holding down third for the entire race.
The win was the second by Save A Penny at Moonee Valley over 1000m.
It was her fifth win in 21 starts and the victory was well deserved for its owners Woodside Park Stud Pty Ltd who have spent millions on horse flesh.
Stewards suspended Stackhouse for 11 meetings for his earlier ride on Kenny Kid in the Essendon Mazda 55 Second Challenge (955m).
Stackhouse severely changed direction on Kenny Kid at the home turn as the horse ahead Globalwarmingsceptic was pushed onto the running rail.
His actions pushed Strike The Tiger (Chris Symons) wide on the track.
Stackhouse can resume riding on December 23.
