Sport Chic has proved she will be a force to be reckoned with in the spring, winning her first race at Caulfield today.

In what was only her second start, the two-year-old produced a spectacular win, after finishing fifth in the Listed Dequetteville Stakes on debut.

Trainer Clinton McDonald always knew that Sport Chic would possess the extraordinary ability she demonstrated today.

“She was a filly I loved from the day I saw her,” McDonald said.

“She was a good walking filly and she has followed that through.”

McDonald is confident that the best is yet to come for Sport Chic, with the young filly set to be a competitive spring starter.

“We feel she’ll be better next time around but we were keen to get a win on the board and some prize money in the bank before the spring comes around,” he said.

The trainer will wait to see how she pulls up from this run before making any decisions about where to send her next.

“We’ll have a look whether we give her one more or tip her out then we’ll try to get her in for the Flemington carnival if we can,” McDonald said.

Sport Chic will most likely be aimed at some of Melbourne’s spring mile races, with the filly expected to target the Carbine Club Stakes on Flemington’s Derby Day in October.
