A Spring Carnival campaign lies ahead for Our Voodoo Prince after the English import took out the Group 3 $150,000 Le Pines Funerals Easter Cup (2000m) at Caulfield today.

Our Voodoo Prince kept his Australian record intact with his third win from three starts since arriving from England.

The Chris Waller trained six year old will now have a break and prepare for the Spring Carnival and Melbourne stable foreman Justine Hales said that Waller has discussed his future plans during the week.

“I think Chris is going to put him out now, that was what he said during the week and save him for the Spring.”

Today’s win didn’t came that easy with jockey James Winks on Our Voodoo Prince held up behind horses in the early stages of the straight and had to search frantically for some daylight.

The run finally opened up at the one hundred and fifty metre mark and Our Voodoo Prince ($2.30 favourite) shot through to score a three quarter of a lengths win from Akzar ($5.50) who followed the winner through the narrow gap.

The David Hayes trained Stipulate ($17) also ran on to finish in third spot.

Hales said that she was worried at the top of the straight when Our Voodoo Prince was smothered in amongst the pack and was relieved he shot through the gap.

“I shut my eyes,” Hales said.

“When he wasn’t getting a gap I said gosh I hope he gets out. James, he just waited and he didn’t panic.”

Hales said that the English import doesn’t show a lot on the tracks but really puts it all together on race day.

“He is a bit of a revelation really. He doesn’t show that much at home and race day he just goes out there and does it,” Hales said.
