Spring Campaign Back On The Table For Peck

Spring Carnival plans are back on the table for Peck after winning at Rosehill

An entire spring carnival campaign was resting on the performance of Peter Snowden’s three-year-old colt Peck when he took to the track for the That’s Fishy 3YO Handicap on Saturday at Rosehill Gardens.

With not much more than $25,000 in the bank, the promising horse would be rated out of most of the best races later in the year.

However, Peck made a great leap forward by winning the race by almost a length.

Brad Widdup, Darley’s Warwick Farm foreman, was pleased that Peck was finally able to claim a win after a luckless Brisbane campaign.

“We had no luck in Brisbane,” Widdup said.

“We took him up there hoping for the Queensland Derby, but he missed out so Peter (Snowden) bought him back and we are just trying to get a couple of races in him as he has a good opinion of him, and when right he can win, so it was a good effort.

“We were chasing out tail before the Derby as we knew we had to get prize money for him.”

Now that Peck has almost $70,000 to his name he will most likely have one more start before having a spell that will see him return in time for the Melbourne spring.

“We will probably have one more run and then he will go away,” Widdup said.

“We just want to get some racing into him.”

Jockey Josh Parr rode Peck to victory in the race.

“What you are seeing here is what he is doing on raw ability. He is not too sure on what it is all about believe it or not,” Parr said.

“He has had a good few starts now so he should be picking it up, but you will see a lovely horse next time.

“He was too good for them and I am glad we got away with a win.”
