While it may not carry the same prize money and status as some of the majors on the Flemington card this weekend Race 7 is definitely one worth sticking around for.

It features a capacity field of 16 set to be run over a trip of 1410m.

While the large field makes for plenty of interesting matchups none are more intriguing than that of Speediness and Pago Rock.

Both of them are four year olds, both of them have had eight starts and both of them have only missed out on a placing once in their career.

They both ended their preparations in the same week last September and both recorded victories in their first up assignments over 1200m this autumn.

Pago Rock has the advantage in overall wins with six to three but Speediness has made them count with prize money of $160,00 to $111,000.

In fact even before the race this weekend these two are almost impossible to split.

Speediness will jump from gate nine with 54.5kg while Pago Rock will be right next door in eight with half a kilogram weight advantage.

Of course given there are 14 other horses in the field anything can happen over the 1400m at Flemington but don’t be surprised to see these two geldings going toe to toe for the length of the straight.

Their records prove they’re well and truly contenders in this grade and splitting between them is almost a toss of a coin.

Speediness runs for Colin Scott with the ride of Glen Boss while Pago Rock is a Peter Moody galloper in the hands of Luke Nolen.
