Electric Power has returned to good and competitive form through her recent starts in New South Wales, and was also confirmed in the field for the JBS Australia Handicap (1400m) at Sydney’s Royal Randwick this weekend.

Citing to the team’s desire to saddle Electric Power to success at black type level, Lees told Racing Ahead he is confident the mare has the ability to make an impact in the small but talented Spear Chief Quality field, particularly in the likely-to-be damp conditions.

“She’ll head up north because she’s very good on wet ground,” Lees said.

“She might look a little out graded but we’re just chasing a bit of black type with her, being a mare.

“She’s certainly an each way chance in a race like that.”

Electric Power has posted a number of commendable results on her way to five wins and a further eight minors through twenty-five career starts, since debuting for third in the Markey Insurance Country Plate (1280m) in June, 2013.

Having charged home to win the McGrath Estate Agents BM85 (1300m) at Randwick in early winter 2015, the Mossman mare failed to fire when tenth in the Ruben Guthrie In Cinemas BM85 (1200m) and was returned to the paddock; missing the spring season.

Trialling well in the lead-up to her competitive return this time, Electric Power was settled at the tail of the field in the Newcastle Provincial Championships Qualifier (1350m) first-up on March 20th but failed to make anything of an impression when tenth in the Provincial Championship Final (1400m) on Day 2 of The Championships.

Progressing to tenth in the Group 3 Godolphin Crown (1300m) on April 30th, the mare out of Miss Polanas has since finished eighth in the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) and fourth in the Eric Kime BM84 (1400m).

Ladbrokes Australia currently rate Electric Power a $13 chance in 2016 Spear Chief Quality betting markets.
