The Canterbury Classic market has been blown wide open with short-priced favourite Sessions scratched from the Friday night feature sprint.

A swollen testicle has forced the withdrawal of the son of Lonhro who has created plenty of hype in his young career with three wins from five starts.

“Please note trainer Peter Snowden has advised Racing NSW Stewards that Sessions (Race 5, Horse 8) will be scratched from its engagement (Canterbury BMW Classic) due to localised swelling in a testicle,” a Racing NSW statement said.

It was to be the emerging colt’s black-type debut after he earned a start on the back of a half-length win in a BM80 at Warwick Farm on January 5.

Sessions was a $2.80 favourite in Canterbury Classic betting with Canberra gelding Unanimously the new top elect at $3.80.

The five-year-old hasn’t raced since August when he recorded back-to-back placings at Moonee Valley including in the Listed Carlyon Stakes.

In a now open market, four other horses are hovering around the $5 mark including Skytrain ($5), Didntcostalot ($5.25), Uate ($6) and Whitefriars ($6.50).

Marc Conners-trained gelding Didntcostalot was considered good enough for a trip to Melbourne for the Spring Carnival.

While he failed to make an impact in either the Group 3 McEwen Stakes or Group 2 Schillaci Stakes, the four-year-old gained valuable experience and will running first-up on Friday night.

The Darley-owned Skytrain can often be a source of frustration to punters but showed good form on New Year’s Day when a narrowly beaten third in a blanket finish in the Listed Carrington Stakes.
