Sons Of God Salutes For Heathcote Stable

Robert Heathcote is looking to send four-year-old gelding Sons Of God to the Magic Millions Carnival at the Gold Coast next month.

The trainer has acquired the God’s Own gelding from trainer Dan O’Sullivan in Ballarat after owner Wayne Sayers decided to make the move.

Sons Of God has had mixed success across his race starts in Victoria, winning just one of his ten runs.

“I’ve currently got shares in about five horses and I’ve got a few with Rob,” Sayers said.

“I bought this bloke at the Adelaide Magic Millions for $80,000 and if all goes well he’ll run on Magic Millions day.

“He’s eligible for the Magic Millions Country Cup but there’s also the Magic Millions Cup we’re looking at if he progresses further.”

God’s Own started his affiliation with Heathcote’s Queensland stables on a high today after winning the 1,200 metre Racing Retro Handicap at Eagle Farm today by a nose ahead of Altai Warrior.

Heathcote was unsure whether the horse had won the race following the close finish between the two horses.

“Had I known it was going to rain all day and be a heavy track I wouldn’t have started him,” Heathcote admitted.

“The finish was very tight and I thought he got rolled.

“He’ll probably go to another midweek next but there’s some nice Saturday races in him.”

While Son’s Of God was a $80,000 purchase from the 2009 Adelaide Magic Millions Sale, the gelding had won only $19,00 in prize money before today’s race.
