Solicit Back To Her Best In Summoned Stakes

Solicit returned to her best form to record an impressive victory in the 2015 Summoned Stakes at Sandown this afternoon.

Solicit was taken to the front in the early stages of the Summoned Stakes and she was able to settle in a lovely rhythm, while favourite Scarlet Billows was well back towards the tail of the field.

The Street Cry filly responded extremely well when she asked for an extra effort by jockey Kerrin McEvoy and she bolted away from her rivals to record her first race win since she took out the Group 3 Darley Crown (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens earlier this year.

McEvoy has been the form jockey on Zipping Classic day for the past five years and he was delighted to ride another treble in 2015 after previously taking out the Merson Cooper Stakes on Jackson and the Kevin Heffernan Stakes on Famous Seamus.

“I said to Gerry and Nick the owner that I normally ride a treble on this day, so I had to step it up,” McEvoy said.

“I am glad to win on this mare for them, she has been running well in a good grade of races and today she was able to get into her own rhythm and she was too strong.

“She is a big strong girl, this is a little bit of black-type for her and it is a job well done.”

Solicit was transferred to the care of Gerald Ryan before the 2015 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and she has performed well without winning – outside of the Darley Crown – in the majority of her starts for her new stable.

Ryan said that Solicit simply needed to replicate her strong performance in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on October 17 to take out the Summoned Stakes and he revealed that the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) would be the major 2016 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival goal for the five-year-old.

“Coming into this third-up she looked the fittest and she worked very well here on Wednesday morning,” Ryan said.

“It is quite amazing because it is the first time she has won at further than 1400 metres even though she has been placed in the Oaks and at 2000 metres.

“She has been going really well.

“She will go to David’s place tomorrow, probably have three weeks off and then we will aim her towards the Coolmore on her home track.”

Solicit is still chasing her maiden win at Group 1 level after previously being placed in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) and Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m), while she finished fourth behind Bonaria in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) last year.
