Soft track to suit market mover Derryn in Doomben 10,000

A rain affected Doomben track on Saturday will enhance the chances of market mover Derryn in the Group 1 $700,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1200m).

The Lindsay Park trained Derryn has been well supported in early betting at Ladbrokes.com.au since the final field was released on Wednesday and has firmed in from $15 to be $11 late on Thursday afternoon.

The Doomben surface was rated a heavy 8 on Thursday but with no more rain heading into the weekend the track could be upgraded into the soft range which will suit Derryn perfectly.

Derryn is coming off a three run Sydney Autumn Carnival campaign that netted him two wins and one unplaced effort all on wet tracks.

The Hinchinbrook colt ploughed through a heavy 10 to record a win in the Listed $125,000 Quickway Constructions Darby Munro Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 18 but then never threatened when eighth to Chautauqua in the Group 1 $2.5m Darley T J Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 1.

The Lindsay Park Team of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig quickly had Derryn back into winning form at s next start when he finished hard from back in the field on a soft 7 to take out the Group 2 $600,000 Arrowfield 3yo Sprint (1200m) at Randwick a week later.

“He has got very good Sydney form and he loves a bit of cut in the ground and the track is currently heavy so we are pretty confident,” David Hayes said.

Derryn travelled back to Lindsay Park at Euroa in Victoria following his Sydney campaign and Hayes has reported that the colt had thrived at the farm before heading north again to Queensland.

“He has been back at Lindsay Park and really trained on well,” Hayes said.

“He has arrived up there safely.”

Derryn has drawn barrier six in the fifteen horse Doomben 10,000 field with Regan Bayliss back in the saddle replacing Mark Zahra.

Derryn is one of three three-year-olds to line up alongside the older sprinters in the weight for age feature sprint, the others being the $3.20 favourite Russian Revolution and the $34 outsider El Divino.

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained Russian Revolution showed his class two starts back with a narrow win over his stablemate and Doomben 10,000 rival Redzel in the Group 1 $700,000 Nathan’s Famous Hotdogs Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill on March 18 before finishing sixth to Chautauqua in the T J Smith Stakes.

The Darren Weir trained El Divino is facing a huge class rise after finishing fourth to Desert Lashes in Listed $100,000 Redelva Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville on April 22.
