So You Think Top Weight In Europe Debut

With his European debut just around the corner So You Think has been training brilliantly and the task of winning his first race in Ireland has been made a little bit easier as well.

He is among just 11 horses are still active in nominations for the Mooresbridge Stakes at The Curragh, down from an initial list of 23.

Of those horses five are trained by So You Think’s new trainer Aidan O’Brien who took over duties from Bart Cummings.

He could have had more too with O’Brien choosing to not accept Fame And Glory, a triple Group 1 winner in tremendous form after resuming with a victory earlier this month.

There isn’t a lot of information forthcoming from the Ballydoyle stables but the mail is that top English rider Ryan Moore will be the man aboard So You Think when he takes on the Group 3 assignment.

He should get a bit of help when the race jumps too with stable mate Windsor Palace expected to jump to an early lead and set the pace.

So You Think hasn’t had a race since running third as a well backed favourite in last year’s Melbourne Cup.

His Australian record has followed him to Ireland though and he’s been slugged with the 60kg top weight as the only horse to have triumphed at Group 1 level in the past year.

O’Brien’s other big hope will be Jan Vemeer which ran third in the Group 1 Prix de Paris and also the Irish Derby.

He’s no certainty to accept though and if he does he’ll carry a 59kg weight.

Dermot Weld looks like the trainer most likely to spoil the party if he chooses to run Famous Name which has started 22 times for 11 race victories and also has a 59kg weight.

So You Think’s first race for his new stable will jump at around 2:20am Australian time.
