So You Think Could Face Canford Cliffs Showdown

So You Think

So You Think could fave off against Canford Cliffs in their next race

As Australian’s begin to get over So You Think’s loss in the Prince Of Wales Stakes during the carnival at Royal Ascot, the attention can now turn to his next start and making amends for both himself and trainer Aidan O’Brien.

It’s yet to be determined if Ryan Moore will get a shot at redemption after his error riddled ride but either way it’s crucial that So You Think bounces back with a win.

It’s not going to be easy though and while his last start was at Group 1 level, the field he could face next start is in another league.

July 2nd will be the date, Sandown the course and the Eclipse Stakes the event.

Making things very interesting indeed was today’s announcement that Canford Cliffs could be on his way.

The four-year-old was originally expected to stay at the 1600m and defend his title in the Sussex Stakes but connections are leaving open the Eclipse as a real option.

If he did step up to the 2000m race not only would he meet the big Australian but also the highly impressive Workforce as well.

Each of the three horses are absolute super stars in their own right so a clash like this would stop the racing world.

If you’re yet to see Canford Cliffs in action he was the very first winner on the first day of the Ascot carnival.

In that race he took care of the ‘French Black Caviar’ Goldikova and asserted himself well and truly by claiming the Queen Anne Stakes.

If connections change their mind and keep the horse at a mile it will be no real downer either as he’d run into the unbeaten Frankel.

While Frankel looked to have topped out over the trip last start trainer Sir Henry Cecil hasn’t even ruled out sending his horse up over 2000m in the future.

The reality is we could well face a scenario with So You Think, Workforce, Frankel, Canford Cliffs and Prince Of Wales winner Rewilding all in the one event.

Unfortunately it won’t be this year and it’s up to Richard Hannon as to which megastar he’ll take on with Canford Cliffs this year, his son and assistant had this to say.

“Canford Cliffs came out of the Queen Anne fine and we are looking at either the Sussex Stakes or possibly the Eclipse for him next,” Richard Hannon Jnr said.

“We will discuss it with the owners as it’s a question of one race or the other.

“I would be confident taking on Frankel at Goodwood.

“It will be a good race, and hopefully we will win.”
