So You Think has continued his European dominance with Irish Champion Stakes win

So You Think has continued his European dominance by winning the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown last Saturday.

The five-year-old ex-Australian galloper won the €750,000 event by half a length ahead of Snow Fairy.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien was ecstatic after So You Think’s latest Irish victory.

”It’s a long time since he ran (63 days) and you’d always be worried about that,” O’Brien said.

O’Brien has ruled out a start for So You Think in his third Cox Plate in Melbourne this October, and is instead looking towards an appearance in either the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in France or the English Champion Stakes at Ascot.

A third Cox Plate win would have seen So You Think equal the feat of the great Kingston Town, who won the race three times from 1980-1982.

”We’ll discuss things during the week now as to where he’ll go next,” O’Brien said.

“He’s an unusual horse. He could come back to a mile or go (2000 metres).

“He has never tried (2400 metres) but with the big horse (Pour Moi) out of the Arc, that is a possibility – it leaves the door open.”

Part owner John Magnier confirmed that a Cox Plate run was not on the agenda.

”He’s the kind of horse that spoils you for choice,” he said.

”There is the Arc, but there’s also the races at Ascot, the mile race or the mile-and-a-quarter … a return Down Under is not imminent.”
