So You Think

Cox Plate champion So You Think has made a successful European debut

So You Think has made a successful European debut by winning the 2000 metre Mooresbridge Stakes at The Curragh by an incredible ten lengths.

The ex-Australian champion made his mark on European racing by producing his first victory since being purchased by Ireland’s Coolmore Stud for a reported $50 million.

So You Think won the race with what appeared to be an exhibition gallop, completing the event in a time that was 12.84 seconds outside the course record.

The horse’s trainer, Aidan O’Brien, was bursting with admiration for the five-year-old So-You Think after the race.

“You could not ask for more,” O’Brien said.

“He’s an incredible specimen and it’s a privilege to have him.

“He has only been doing half speeds at home and was just ready for today’s race.”

O’Brien believes credit should be given to Australia for the country’s ability to produce such an outstanding race horse.

“He came to Ireland with the most unbelievable reputation and he is a real product of Australian breeding, training and racing,” O’Brien said.

“We’ve had some good horses from Australia, Starspangledbanner and Haradasun, but when this fellow walked through the door, we’ve never experienced anything like it.

“We have heard all these things about him and how unbelievable he was and when you see him you can believe it.”

Jockey Seamus Heffernan said that he did not have to ask So You Think to put in an effort at any stage of yesterday’s race.

“I never let out the throttle at all, he was going half speed,” Heffernan said.

“He’s a real one.”

So You Think will now be aimed at the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup (2000m) at The Curragh on May 22.

“He’s unique. He seems to go so easily in his races that he could either go up or even step back in trip, but his most likely next race is the Tattersalls Gold Cup here on May 22,” O’Brien said.
