There’s no doubt Peter Snowden is the king of two year olds and as such punters are keen not to miss out on any of his new prospects.

One of the most hyped has been Lyric, a colt that’s been at the centre of a huge push into odds on favouritism at Rosehill tomorrow.

In fact he’s the only horse they want in the Blackwoods Sidchrome Handicap following his comprehensive win in a Warwick Farm barrier trial.

Snowden agrees this horse has plenty of upside but has warned he’s under the odds and far from a sure thing.

“I don’t think it (the price) is justified,” Snowden said.

“There’s a lot of hype about the horse but it’s not coming from the stable.

“We just think he’s a nice horse, nothing more than that.

“He did trial nicely and he does work well but I certainly don’t rate him as a superstar.”

We were originally due to see the horse last Saturday at Canterbury but he was one of the many scratchings due to the heavy rain.

Snowden says he’s only going to have the single start and he wants to make sure it’s a good one.

“I only want to give him one run (this preparation) and I didn’t want to do it on a bottomless track,” he said.

He says the horse has probably also benefitted from another week of training and he’ll be in great shape come tomorrow.

The barrier trial that has caused all this excitement was over 800m on November 15, he cleared the circuit in a time of 47.30 seconds.

“He’s a strong horse, athletic and has got good natural pace,” Snowden said.

“Just how good he is, for mine you’ve got to see them do it in a race first. Trials and trackwork are one thing but a race is a different thing altogether.”

On his side is the fact only seven horses have been entered for the race and five of them are on debut.
