Snitzerland on track for Golden Slipper

Sydney filly Snitzerland will return home for the Golden Slipper after making an one act affair in the  Group 3 $125,000 TBV Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) at Flemington today.

Trainer Gerald Ryan will keep Snitzerland in Melbourne as long as he can to escape the wet tracks in Sydney but is hoping to run her in the Group 2 $300,000 Reisling Slipper Trial (1200m) at Rosehill on March 24 as a lead up to the Golden Slipper.

Ryan rates the Snitzel filly the pick of his two year olds heading towards the Group 1 $3.5m AAMI Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on April 7

“Today was bit better than what she’ been running in. She’s got it all, good gate speed, she switches off, she relaxes, she quickens and she’s a great doer at home. We just have to try and hold her together now for another month,” Ryan said.

“If it stays wet in Sydney she’ll stay here a bit longer and get ready here and then go back to Sydney.”

Jockey Corey Brown was having his second ride on Snitzerland after winning on her at Mornington and always had the $2.70 favourite in a winning position.

Brown had Snitzerland travelling smoothly outside the leader Nickioffski on the inside fence and let her stride at the lead 400m and had the race well and truly won at the 100m.

“I had the leader drop off at the 400m and I knew I was getting there too soon. To her credit she dug deep. She is still very new down the straight. Going back to Sydney for the Golden Slipper, she had to do that today to be competitive,” Brown Said.
