Snitzerland looking for Spring Group 1 win, then Royal Ascot

A Spring Group 1 victory for Snitzerland could lure prominent owner Neil Werrett to return to England to claim another win at the prestigious Royal Ascot Carnivalin June.

Werrett was one of the driving forces that saw champion mare Black Caviar score a dramatic win in the 2012 Group 1 £500,000 The Diamond Jubilee Stakes (6 furlongs) and is keen to chase another another Royal Ascot win.

Trainer Gerald Ryan has had preliminary talks with Werrett and if Snitzerland can break her Group 1 maiden in the Spring or next Autumn, an overseas trip is on the cards.

“If she can get a Group One Neil would like to think about Royal Ascot,” Ryan said.

Snitzerland has been placed at Group 1 level on two occasions and showed her class as a two year old when second to Pierro in the 2012 $3.5m AAMI Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill during the Sydney Autumn Carnival.

The Snitzel filly also ran a brave race when runner up to Bel Sprinter in this year’s Group 1 $350,000 Canterbury BMW Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill on March 30.

Ryan has selected four possible races to choose from for Snitzerland’s two Spring appearances before putting her out proir to preparing her for a tilt at the Group 1 $500,000 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington in February.

“She will only have two starts in the spring from four races we have picked out,” Ryan said.

“They are the McEwen Stakes, the Schillaci the Manikato and what was the Patinack.

“Then she will come back for the Lightning Stakes in the autumn.

“That’s the race we have targeted.”

Ryan was happy with the way Snitzerland had developed during her time away from the race track and will kick off her Spring campaign when she returns to his Rosehill stables this week.

“She has really grown and put on weight,” he said.

“She has always been pretty small but she looks to have strengthened up a lot so it all looks good.”

The Group 2 $175,000 Mitty’s McEwen Stakes (1000m) is run at Moonee Valley on September 14, giving Ryan eight weeks to get her ready his he decides to go to Moonee Valley first up.

The Group 2 $220,000 Schweppes Schillaci Stakes (1000m) is run at Caulfield four weeks later while the Group 1 $1m Sportingbet Manikato Stakes (1200m) is run at Moonee Valley on October 25 over the Cox Plate Carnival weekend and the Group 1 $1m Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) at Flemington is run on the last day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
