Sniper's Bullet

Snipers Bullet is one of those horses in the last few years that can lay claim to having attracted a real cult following.

He’s travelled all over Australia and the world and while his results of late haven’t been spectacular, he’s certainly earned his connections a very tidy income.

Unfortunately for him this Saturday in the BTC Cup at Doomben he runs into a horse with perhaps the biggest cult following of any racehorse in the modern era.

Not only that, Black Caviar is likely to be the most talented race horse of the modern era as well, so trainer Tracy Bartley is realistic about his prospects when he faces her this weekend.

“You’ve got to go through this campaign anyway, I’m going to take a lasso to the races,” he joked.

Despite being written off as a 100 to 1 chance and receiving very little support Bartley isn’t about to lay down though.

“I reckon he’d go as good as he did in the Manikato, he’s flying our horse, he’s going well.” He said.

The lead up for Snipers Bullet has been a long way from Group 1 territory, he had a jump out at Wyong and then a trial a week later at Muswellbrook.

However staying out of the spotlight and away from any scrutiny could work right into his favour.

“He’s spot on, probably a bit sharper than I’ve ever had him first up, he goes good fresh,” he said.

“This is a different kettle of fish, these are two superstars.”

Bartley is expecting a good run from her charger but seems genuinely happy to be a part of such an historic event.

“It’s a bit it of a buzz, everyone is looking forward to it, credit to Peter Moody and the owners to even bring the horse up for the carnival.” He said.

“It’s fantastic for Queensland Racing this is a great drawcard for them.

“I was around when Manikato was here, that was a great horse and a great spectacle and now we’ve got another one this far down the track.”
