A small but classy field is expected to line up for the 2017 Group 2 $200,000 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday after only ten fillies made up the list of nominations.

Trainer James Cummings has nominated two well-bred Godolphin three year olds, Sepoy filly Alizee and Jorda by Exceed And Excel.

Jorda hasn’t been to the races since winning her only race start in the Listed $150,000 Keeneland Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on October 1 last year while Cummings is likely to keep Alizee up against the fillies in the upcoming Spring Carnival after scoring a handy first up win in a 1100m three year old fillies Maiden at Warwick Farm on August 2 and leave his colts to contest the Golden Rose..

“I think we’ve got colts to target that (Golden Rose) but certainly with the sort of feel she’s giving me the Princess Series could be a nice circuit for her to be tacking on to,” Cummings said.

“I think she’ll be well-suited for the Silver Shadow with its set weights and penalties.”

The Group 1 $1m De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on September 23 is the first Group 1 for the three year olds in the Sydney Spring Carnival and Cummings has the early $9 favourite Kementari on target for that.

The Silver Shadow Stakes is the first leg of the Princess Series for three year old fillies and follows on to the Group 2 $200,000 Furious Stakes (1200m), Group 2 $200,000 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and the Group 1 $500,000 Flight Stakes (1600m) all run at Randwick.

Warwick Farm trainer Bjorn Baker has nominated the unbeaten Champagne Cuddles for the Silver Shadow Stakes and the Not A Single Doubt filly could not have been more impressive with her two wins from two starts in the $150,000 Pierro Plate at Rosehill last October and in  the $100,000 Redfern Plate (1000m) at Randwick on June 10.

The Lindsay Park Team of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig have nominated Golden Slipper third placegetter Tulip and Blue Diamond third placegetter Formality for the Silver Shadow Stakes.

Tulip was a winner prior to running in the Golden Slipper in the Group 3 $175,000 Chandon S Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 11 and then after the Golden Slipper the Pierro filly finished fifth to Invader in the Group 1 $1m Inglis Sires’ (1400m) at Randwick on April 1, day one of ‘The Championships’.

Formality had one more Autumn Carnival outing after her fourteenth in the Golden Slipper for a second to Shoals in the Group 2 $600,000 IG Share Trading Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 8.

Re-located Kiwi co-trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, who now work out of Cranbourne, have nominated Sebring filly Seannie and their Sepoy filly Garrad for the Silver Shadow Stakes.

The Australian Turf Club has extended the nomination deadline for the Silver Shadow Stakes until 11am on Tuesday August 15, 2017.
