Two year old Sizzling is on track for more Winter Carnival glory after making it two wins from two starts this campaign in the Group 2 $175,000 Bollinger Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben today.
Sizzling was again in the second half of the field in the early stages after jumping okay and was giving Dances On Stars six to seven lengths start coming to the home turn.
Jockey Glyn Schofield slowed the pace in the middle stages and sprinted clear on Dances On Stars in the straight before being run down by Sizzling and Academus.
Once Chris Munce got Sizzling into the clear, it took all the length of the straight to gather in the leaders.
Munce said that the Snitzel colt was better out of the barriers today, but he is still learning about racing.
“At least today he able to travel up a little bit closer, but he still no speed machine out of the gates,” Munce said.
“I got hooked up behind Noogoora Burr and had to come out around them and out sprint them. With 57 and second up he’s done a super job.”
Trainer Kelso Wood is now looking forward to stepping Sizzling up to 1400m in the Group 2 $250,000 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm on June 2 before stepping up again to 1600m in the Group 1 $500,000 Patinack Farm T J Smith at Eagle Farm on June 9.
Sizzling was always in the red in the betting ring and started at $1.55 and was able to finish too strongly for the Peter Snowden trained Academus who started at $8.
