English is set to contest the 2015 Sires Produce Stakes on Saturday and trainer Gai Waterhouse believes that the talented filly is her best winning chance on the opening day of The Championships at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

English made her racing debut with an impressive victory in a maiden at Kembla Grange on January 31 and she stamped herself as a Golden Slipper contender when she defeated the likes of Ottoman and Fireworks to win the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on March 7.

The Encosta De Lago filly was well-backed in the lead-up to the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 21 and she hit the front at the 200 metre mark before she was run down by talented stablemate Vancouver in the final stages of the race.

Waterhouse told Racing Ahead this morning that English has trained on strongly heading into the Sires Produce Stakes and she believes the juvenile has an excellent chance to record a maiden win at the highest level of racing.

“I am over the moon with her and she is probably my best bet of the day,” Waterhouse said.

“She has absolutely gone ahead since the race, she looks amazing, she is very muscled, she is exceptionally happy and very bright.”

English will be stepping up to 1400 metres for the first time in her racing career in the Sires Produce Stakes and will likely have her first start on a rain affected surface.

The two-year-old recorded a five and a half lengths victory over Right Of Way and Yuma Desert in a barrier trial over 734 metres at Royal Randwick on February 23 on a soft track and Waterhouse is confident she will handle a softish track, while she does not believe that the 1400 metres of the Sires Produce Stakes will be a great deal tougher than the Golden Slipper.

“She is by Encosta De Lago and I think that the Golden Slipper is very much like a 1400 metre race,” Waterhouse said.

“I think she will finish strongly with no difficulty on Saturday.

“I think that she will be racing in her racing pattern and it seems to suit her.”

English is currently available at 2015 Sires Produce Stakes odds of $4.60 and she is on the second line of betting behind Blue Diamond Stakes winner Pride Of Dubai ($4.20).
