Co-trainer Peter Snowden revealed that Bounding will be set for the 2015 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes after she returned to racing with a most impressive victory in the 2015 The Heath 1100 at Caulfield this afternoon.

Bounding was extremely well-backed in the lead-up to The Heath 1100 and she was settled in a lovely position just behind the pace in the early stages of the race, while Rich Enuff took up the running from Miss Promiscuity.

Kerrin McEvoy bided his time on Bounding, but the daughter of Lonhro responded extremely quickly when she was asked for an extra effort and she finished over the top of her rivals to record her maiden Australian race win.

Bounding was having her first race start for Team Snowden and Snowden was delighted that she had been able to get the job done in such emphatic fashion, but he was quick to pay credit to her previous trainer Ken Kelso.

“It was just what we wanted to see, but in saying that she had a great record before I got her,” Snowden said.

“She has had 14 starts and 13 times she finished first or second, so it just tells you how much quality this mare has got.

“She settled really well, Kerrin was able to get her into that perfect spot and she relaxed well and let down beautifully.

“I have a long range plan ahead and the reasoning for coming here today was for that plan and hopefully we can keep going on.”

Bounding finished at the tail of the field in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) just under 12 months ago, but Snowden has a different race in mind for the five-year-old this preparation and he believes that the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) is the perfect race for the talented mare.

“The Rupert Clarke, I think that it is tailor made for her,” Snowden said.

“Time will tell and weight will tell, it is a handicap and we will have to wait for what happens between now and then.”

McEvoy was having his first race ride on Bounding in The Heath and he could not have been more impressed with the feel that he received from the New Zealand Group 1 winner.

The leading hoop said that he was very confident heading into the Group 3 event this and he is confident that Bounding can perform at the highest level of racing during the 2015 Spring Racing Carnival.

“She is a very classy individual,” McEvoy said.

“We were pretty confident coming into today and she has been doing everything right at home.

“She has got form on this sort of ground and obviously we respected Rich Enuff enormously, but she has shown us how good she is today.

“She is pretty nice to ride, we were able to get a nice trial and she had it very easy.

“She put him to bed pretty quickly and she is a smart filly that really looks like a Group 1 sprinter.”

Rich Enuff was far from disgraced in his return to racing and he battled on bravely to finish second.
