Deploy beat a smart field to the line in the Group 3 Show County Quality to break the 1200m record at Royal Randwick three weeks ago and he immediately took up the running after jumping well this afternoon; setting a fast early tempo for the small Theo Marks Stakes field.

Opening a lead of four lengths on his closest rivals in transit this afternoon, the Fastnet Rock gelding only continued to find upon arriving at the final straight; kicking clear to savage the line five lengths ahead of Egg Tart, who was also pleasing to the line.

Josh Parr rode a running double after also piloting Gold Standard to a smart win in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) this afternoon and was thrilled with Deploy’s performance.

“He’s in fantastic form at the moment, the stable has him absolutely flying,” Parr said after crossing the line.

“What a pleasure it is to ride these horses that are running so well.

“You never know where they’ll end up with him, but this horse is just in fantastic form and I’m pleased to get on him here today.”

Trainer Gerald Ryan was thrilled with Deploy’s performance and revealed that he may target the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) in Victoria on October 1st.

“He’s getting along,” Ryan said after the race.

“I was hoping that he wasn’t going too fast, but as a horse he doesn’t know how to lie down and he’s in great form.

“After he worked here on Tuesday morning I thought he’d improved. He’s been bouncing around the stable and you wouldn’t think a horse could run a record at Randwick and then back up and do it again three weeks later.

“We’ll sit down and think about it. I was tossing around the idea of the Epsom but after today, I don’t think we’ll do that.

“There’s the Rupert Clarke in Melbourne, which has always been in the back of my mind since Queensland and if he was to go there, he’d go there from today.”

Consistent mare Euro Angel worked to the line well to finish third in the Theo Marks Stakes this afternoon.
