Sincero will be first up in the Tramway Handicap at Randwick

A fork in the rode looms for Stradbroke Handicap champion Sincero as he prepares for his first up run of the new season this Saturday.

Sincero will contest the Tramway Handicap at Randwick on Saturday and his performance will go a long way to determining the future plans for the horse.

His long term goal remains the Cox Plate but just what route connections take to get there is up in the air.

One journey would see him remain in Sydney beyond this weekend to contest the Epsom Handicap while the other would see him move south to Melbourne for the Underwood Stakes.

Trainer Stephen Farley says they’ll wait to see what happens in the Tramway before thinking too far ahead.
“A lot will depend on how he performs on Saturday and how he pulls up,” Farley said.

“There are a few options, we can stay for the Epsom and then go to Melbourne and back up a week later and then it is a fortnight in to the Cox Plate.

“Or we can head to Melbourne after Saturday and run in the Underwood Stakes. He has got to be very competitive to warrant a trip to Melbourne straight away.”

Chris O’Brien will reunite with Sincero for the Tramway this weekend and will stay with the horse for as long as possible after light weights forced him off the ride during the Brisbane winter carnival.

Sincero became a sensation earlier in the year with a winning run stretching back to 2010.

He won six in a row before getting to the QTC Cup, his first failure as he was trapped on the rails and tailed off in 11th.

Amazingly though he bounced back next start in the Stradbroke Handicap winning the event and raising big expectations about what he may offer over the spring.
