Two times Group one winner Sincero will go straight to Melbourne to defend his crown in the Group 1 $350,000 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 31 after trialling at Rosehill today.

Trainer Stephen Farley said that barring any problems, Sincero will kick off his Spring Carnival campaign on Saturday week after missing the Autumn after suffering a strained sesamoid in his front joint.

The flashy black gelding ran to the line late in the 1030m trial to wind up in third spot behind Oakleigh Plate winner Mrs Onassis and will head south once Farley gives him the all clear.

“He seems good, really good, but we’ll take him home and sit down and assess everything before we make any set plans,” Farley told Racing Network.

“He seems to have come back really well and he’s 100 per-cent sound too.

Sincero won the Memsie Stakes last year when is was at Group 2 status, but back to back wins would add another Group 1 trophy to the cabinet following his wins in the 2011 $1m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm and the 2011 $350,000 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

Farley is likely to limit Sincero to 1600m races in the Spring after failing to be in the finish in the last two runnings of the Group 1 $3m Sportingbet Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley.

He finished ninth to Pinker Pinker in the 2011 Cox Plate then did no better when ninth again to Ocean Park last year.

Trial winner Mrs Onassis pleased trainer Gerald Ryan with an impressive hit out and will tackle the Group 3 $125,000 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on September 7.

Trainer Anthony Cummings has high Spring Carnival ambitions for Drago who finished fifth in the same trial.

Cummings is anticipating a bright Spring and will head the Danehill Dancer colt towards the major three year old races of the Spring including the Group 1 $400,000 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on October 12 and the Group 1 $1.5m AAMI Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington on November 2.
