Trainer Steve Farley couldn't be happier with Sincero going into the Epsom Handicap

As the trainer of one of the most talked about horses in the country Steve Farley is quickly getting used to the attention that comes with preparing a crowd favourite.

His horse Sincero is now a dual Group 1 champion and goes into this weekend’s Epsom Handicap looking for a third in a strong mile contest.

The heavens opened up above Randwick all weekend soaking the track and throwing up a number of possibilities for what condition it will be come Saturday.

More rain could see it into the heavy ranges while strong winds and clear skies could dry it all the way back to good.

Whatever happens Farley is confident his horse should be able to handle the going, however he’d prefer if the rain held off from now on.

“As long as it’s not too wet I’d be quietly confident,” he said.

“I still think my horse is better suited to a firmer track.”

Even if the track were to deteriorate though as yet there are no thoughts of not running him.

“I nearly have to…to get to where we need to get to he has to have that run under his belt,” he said.

Farley says if anything the horse looks even better after his George Main Stakes win where he showed tremendous courage to fight back against Ilovethiscity who looked to be running past him.

“He’s done well, I know it’s hard to say after winning a Group 1 but he seems to have improved again,” he said.

“Couldn’t be happier with him going into Saturday.

“His serious gallop on Saturday was very good work and he was very happy with him the track work rider.”

Sincero will be top weight with 57kg in the Epsom Handicap but Farley says that’ll be something he now has to come to expect.

“I can’t whinge with the handicap because he’s earned it, but he’s probably really up there with weight,” he said.

“It is a strong mile handicap at Randwick which are hard to win.”

Following the Epsom Handicap Sincero will be sent south to Melbourne where he’ll run in the Caulfield Stakes.

He’s also nominated for both the Caulfield Cup and the more likely option the Cox Plate.

Farley says he’s happy to have the pressure and expectations on him in exchange for a genuine star of the track.

“He’s just one of those horses that loves to win and knows how to win,” he said.

“He’s the type of horse that’s got a big following in Sydney and probably Brisbane as well.”
